HURMULL CHAIR
ABOUT HURMULL
The Hurmull Chair is a sculptural object constructed from offcut vegetable-tanned leather and recycled stainless steel. It explores how traditional craft logic and material efficiency can be reinterpreted within a contemporary luxury context. Drawing on the structural principles of corsetry, tension, compression, and lacing, the leather actively shapes and supports the chair rather than acting as a surface finish.
This approach allows the chair to remain adjustable, repairable, and materially expressive. Offcuts are selected to minimise waste while embracing natural variation and patina. The recycled stainless steel frame forms a continuous structural loop, working in tension with the leather to create a lightweight yet robust construction.
The result is a chair that positions sustainability as a driver of form and value, foregrounding material honesty, durability, and a considered approach to contemporary design.
